With a Liberty Flight ukulele, you select the materials and features to suit your requirements. The result is an heirloom instrument that reflects you and is an ideal tool for your musical expression.
Liberty Flight produces ukuleles in three sizes: Soprano, Concert & Tenor.
Soprano ukuleles are the smallest and have the shortest musical scale and smallest gap between frets. Accordingly, soprano ukuleles are popular for players with small hands. The sound produced by soprano ukuleles tends to be "brighter" but less volume than the larger sizes.
Concert ukuleles the mid-size, larger than the soprano, but not as large as the tenor. Typically concert ukuleles have a fuller sound than the soprano, but maintain the distinctive "ukulele" sound.
Tenor ukuleles are the largest of the Liberty Flight range offering greater spacing between frets, a deeper sound and more volume than the smaller sizes.
Liberty Flight uses only the best hardware, including:
Liberty Flight ukuleles are fitted with "Gotoh" ukulele planetary tuners (UPT). Gotoh UPTs are high quality tuners designed to have the visual appeal of traditional friction tuners, but employing technology to ensure perfect pitch is maintained. With a gearing ratio of 4:1, fine tuning is made easy. The small form factor results in a light weight solution with proportions that are visually appealing for any ukulele.
The LR Baggs "FIVE.O" pickup is arguably the best ukulele pickup on the market. It is engineered specifically for the ukulele, in both form factor and voicing. It includes: a soundhole mounted volume control; miniature endpin preamp; and 3V battery delivering 300+ hours of operation.
Australian tonewoods offer exceptional tonal qualities and beautiful aesthetics. Examples include:
Balanced tone, warm, mellow.
Fine grain, hard wearing, strong mid-range.
Fine grain, relatively soft, relatively heavy.
Warm, good harmonics and tonal characteristics.
Pale colour, fine grain, good resonance.
Close grain, strong mid-range.
Common features of a bespoke Liberty Flight ukulele include:
Side-wall soundholes are becoming popular with members of ukulele groups/clubs where it is often difficult to hear your own instrument in a crowd. The side-wall soundhole directs sound to the player to mitigate this issue.
The butterfly logo, rosette highlights and fret board markers are mother of pearl, inlaid by using a painstaking process of etching out cavities by hand.
Liberty Flight rosettes are typically constructed using a combination of a complementary tonewood with mother of pearl inlay. Rosettes may be designed using an offset to give a sense of perspective and individualise the instrument.
"Wood type" and "wood type" are the most common timbers used by Liberty Flight for fret boards. The frets are placed to deliver exact tones and harmonics. All edges are shaped with care to ensure a pleasurable tactile experience.
The edges of Liberty Flight ukuleles are bound using complementary tonewoods to strengthen and accentuate the shape of the instrument.
The finish recommended by Liberty Flight is a matt oil, highlighting the grain of the tonewood.
Liberty Flight ukuleles come with a rigid road case, offering the highest level of protection available, to ensure your ukulele is safe and sound.
